Are developer jobs in danger?

With the rise of AI and constantly more impressive ChatGPT demos, developers fear for their jobs. But is this a valid concern?

I'd say to some degree yes - but so do other industries have to fear the changes of AI as well.

​Josh Comeau wrote about the fear of new developers and makes a great point that we are most likely not replaced any time soon - just like drag and drop, Wordpress or Webflow didn't replace us!

Nonetheless I recommend that we all get used to the help of ChatGPT or Copilot to perform mundane tasks faster in our daily developer work. Understanding how to talk to AI will definitely be a critical skill over the next years.
